Pick a climate teleconnection (CT) pattern to display its correlation with 3-month burned area (BA)
Images show correlation between CTs and BA expressed using the Pearson's R coefficient.
Columns indicate the region within the Iberian Peninsula. Rows indicate the temporal span of BA
(AMJ: April-June, MJJ: May-July, JJA: June-August, JAS: July-September).
For each column-rowcombination we build a correlogram summarizing all combinations of time scales (number of averaged months in CTs time series)
and lag (delay in the signal in months). CTs were summarized via PCA as follows:
PC1 - Synchronic MOI & NAO opposed to AMO phase. The highest the PC the lowest MOI/NAO. High values relate to +AMO phase
PC2 - PDO & ENSO opposed to AMO. The highest the PC the highest the PDO & ENSO. High values relate to -AMO phase
PC3 - Synchronic ENSO/EA/AMO opposed to WEMOI. The highest the PC the highest the ENSO/EA and the lowest the WEMOI. High values relate to +AMO phase
PC4 - Synchronic SCAND & WEMOI. The highest the PC the lowest SCAND/WEMOI
